Hello all,

If you have been involved with the Valentina 3.0 betas you know that first
release is in the near future. While many customers are eager to use the new
3.0 features and operating system platform, many have asked about ongoing
maintenance of Valentina 2.5.X - including roll backs of fixes and tweaks
from 3.0 into 2.5.X.

Valentina 3.0 will introduce a new serialization method. The "free update"
policy for ADKs is one year; the base for free updates for VDN is two years.
As successive versions are released, you'll be able to utilize the new
updated runtimes based on if your subscription is lapsed or not lapsed.

We are exploring the possibility of a 2.5.10 and beyond in the Valentina 3.x
era. However this would also include the new serialization system in 2.5.10
- to get access to those improvements, you will need to have a currently
active subscription at the time of release. This may strike some users as
unfair because you already paid for 2.X. The economics of providing ongoing
support for multiple versions of an extremely technical product (even with
the ease of systems to roll back fixes, that is only a portion of the total
cost of supporting a particular version of Valentina) means that revenue has
to offset the total cost of fixes - for those fixes to continue to be
produced.

I can understand that there are going to be reasons why you cannot upgrade
your solution to 3.x. In that case, you'll still want to be able to file
issue reports on the version you are using that is the most functional for
your solution and also you'll want Paradigma engineers to delve into the
code to figure out if something is really a bug, or you forgot something
that is particularly individual to your own code for interfacing with
Valentina.

Valentina 3.0 will also introduce, for many development solutions, a Linux
runtime. Initially this will be treated as an addition to the Pro ADK for
new customers and the Pro ADK will increase in price. Very shortly we are
going to publish new pricing, but if you currently have a Pro ADK, there
will be a window of time where you can upgrade to "PRO + LINUX" for the same
cost as upgrading to Valentina 3.0 ADK Pro. This will be a very welcome
addition for users of cross-platform solutions (like REALbasic or
Revolution) that support a Linux target.

By the way: Im going to be attending the Silicon Valley Revolution Users
Group meeting on Thursday night in Lake Oswego, Oregon. If you are in the
general area and would like to sit down to discuss Valentina 3, it's a good
opportunity (even if you arent really a Revolution user).

Best regards,
