VALENTINA 2 ROADMAP REPORT 030212

Given the recent discussion about the Valentina 2 roadmap, we would like
to give you a better understanding of what's planned for rolling out
Valentina 2 products.

The following server based products are already planned -- please note
that the names and features may change before they ship.

Valentina Server 2 Unlimited. This is a standalone server application
suitable for any occasion in which an unlimited number of connections is
desired.

Valentina Server 2 Intranet. This is a standalone server application
that is licensed on a per connection basis. It will be value priced
compared to Valentina Server 2 Unlimited.

Valentina Server 2 Embedded/Bundled Version. This is a version of
Valentina Server 2 Intranet that developers can bundle with their server
application.

We anticipate an initial alpha roll out in early March, 2003.

The alphas will be time limited, however they can be serialized. The
initial release will contain work to date on Valentina 2, with the
exception that it will still contain the Valentina 1.x database kernel.
During the alpha period, the Valentina 1.x database kernel will be
replaced by the new Valentina 2 database kernel. The final release of
all Valentina Server products will have the Valentina 2 database kernel.

For those of you who want to start deploying Valentina 2 prior to its
final release, we are going to allow pre-licensing of the products. This
will allow you to deploy Valentina 2 solutions using the alpha versions
if you want. A  serialized alpha will not time out. This should allow
you to leverage your work with the Valentina 1.x kernel sooner rather
than later. However there is no plan for support of alpha versions after
a new alpha, beta or final version has been released.

Developing Custom Solutions with Valentina 2

If you develop single user custom solutions, there will be no surprises.
Valentina 2 versions of SDKs are in the works and they will have easy
support for connecting to Valentina Server solutions.

If you develop multi-user solutions, you will have several options that
will be available through the Valentina 2 Partner Program. These are:

1. Reseller Options. You will be able to resell the standalone Server
products. This will allow you to build custom solutions and include a
full version of Valentina Server with them.

2. Embedded Server Options. You will be able to create and sell database
solutions that bundle the per-connection version of Valentina Server,
using a license somewhat reminiscent to the current EULA (which is being
revised for the Valentina 2 products). There is virtually no difference
between Valentina Server 2 Intranet and this product, except that you
can deploy this solution to your customers at a much more attractive per
connection price than having to buy the standalone server products.

Changes in Product Lineup with Valentina 2

Valentina Studio. VAPP (Valentina APPlication) will have a spiritual
descendant in Valentina Studio. If you are interested in participating
in the alpha and beta versions of this product, you should contact
Jochen Peters (his sign up information was previously posted to this
list).

Server Oriented SDKs.  There are several "server side" SDKs for
Valentina 1.x. Some of the functionality of these products will be
integrated into Valentina Server 2.
