GetDatabaseFormatVersion with remote database

I see, but then again as you say this will not matter for a vServer as it is the server admin who decides when to install the new server version, since opening the db in a vServer automatically converts to version 5.0.
I think you 'll have (when running a 5.0 server) to check your clients version because connecting a pre 5 client to a 5.x server is a big no no.
