The issue I see is that larger database installations usually do not 
keep up with moving to the newest and greatest hardware and OS 
version. At the same time, many consumer apps must do that. We can't 
judge what is your split among those in terms of numbers, their 
importance as clients, and income they generate.

May be you should branch and maintain a 5.0 version for older stuff 
for a while and move the main branch to Intel only as of, let's say, 
5.1 (maintain meaning no new features but continue to supply bug 
fixes, at best minor improvements).
