Mac ini not respecting the SystemCatalog

Hi,

We're trying to point the installed embedded server to a different location
than the default.  This works fine for us on PC.  On mac it can't find the
folder.  We've checked that the folder exists on the system and it does.  An
example of the setting we are trying is:

SystemCatalog=/Users/johndoe/dbtest

Are we doing something wrong or can the mac not have an alternate location?
