older database files

After upgrading to Valentina 4 my older Valentina data bases do
not open anymore but they do show up with my old code to open
a database.  The problem is after I open them they show a false
for being opened.

With my older code I can create a new database but after closing
it does not show up on the list of databases so I can open it but it
has been saved in the folder.  So if I have eight files including the
new one in the folder I can see all of them but the new db file in
the open dialog.

Anyone know how to correct these problems?  Do I need to update
my older database files somehow and why isn't the new file shown
in the dialog at all?
