As long as it would prevent conversion and give the status.  Although I would prefer a separarate function.

I have no idea how I would do this.  

It's really not that important for me.  The worst case scenario is my user converts a file and then can't use it with the new app.  But, the file will always be backed up, so there is no loss.  I just wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking something already available.
