1) try open this db in Valentina Studio or in viSQL

2) try do the same query from this tools.
    what you see?

3) what cache size you have specify for Valentina ?
    for such big db I recommend 20MB.

4) in Valentina Studio check if field a is marked as indexed.
    may be Valentina build index
