Use Picture.
It is possible to use BLOB, but Picture is better. Than more that you want
JPG compresion

Oh, I think in Kernel.pdf and FAQs this is described very good.
The best segment size -- near to avg size of all your pictures.

Today - NO.

No difference.
I think it is bad idea split on few dbs.
This will make only problems.
