If you do not specify parameter PORT in Vdatabase or Vserver constructor
Then it is default -- 5432.

IF you have 2 Server app, you MUST in each of them set own port,
And in Client you MUST specify corresponded port to connect to one of this
server.

Keith, I am sorry but your questions are confusing.
Please ask in plain English with some examples of steps and settings.
