Fabian,

>>...you leave this registration data in the registry.

In my experience this is de facto standard for a great number of
softwares on Windows. If the uninstallation process should remove all
the data in the registry then there must be an option to leave the
data in the registry.

Giving the setup.exe elevated rights defeat the general purpose with
UAC. The UAC is part of the security paradigm on the Windows platform.
If the setup.exe file would have elevated rights then You actually
hack the UAC. I believe that going in this direction is the wrong
path.

My recommendation is that You embed Valentina's exe file into a
customized setup that take care of the rights and also cleaning up the
Windows Registry. It exist a great number of installation tools that
can accomplish it for You in a smooth way.

Kind regards,
Dennis Wallentin

Hi William,

We still can discuss this of course.

** first question comes to me
    this is query to vserver?

** is cursor client-side or server-side?

** 4000 recs in the result cursor? Or in one of join-tables?

** any other details? What exactly you mark as finish ?

Hi Fabian,

So you work on your win7 as user, which is not admin, Right ?

Hi Ruslan,

No not really. I have admin rights but under Win7 the ,Administrator'
is not the real admin (UAC). So you have to start VStudio once 'As
Administrator'
(via right click) to register VDB files.

So: you have to know this fact and if you uninstall VStudio you leave
this registration data in the registry. If you register the file type
with the setup routine you have 2 benefits: the setup.exe has
automatically elevated rights and can register the file and if you
uninstall, this data can be removed.

Regards

Fabian

You mean

    ClientApp1          ------>
                                                    VSERVER -> db
    ClientApp2          ------>

Anyway single ENGINE of VSERVER has access to db.
So it or do journaling or not do ...

But question is intresting ...

I think if app1 have disable it explicitly, And app2 DO NOT enable it
explicitly, Then journaling still will be disabled for THIS db.

Very good.

Well, for years we say:
client-server should tend to use SQL.

API way will be okay for localhost ...

Of course pity that we still cannot catch that issue in API mode...

I think Ivan should continue think about this and develop more and
more tests on this ... BTW, Ivan, may be that tests can contain
"developer mistakes", when code is obvious wrong, to see how works in
this case our protection mechanisms.

Hi Ruslan,

I'm bussy dotay, so I checked only "SHOW TABLES" and simple "SELECT *
FROM table" queries.

THEY WORK PERFECT --> Thanks a lot.

I'll play little bit with V4REV and VSERVER at weekend, and let you
know.

Marek

Yes it is the same issue. He said he was giving over to a different
programmer. But no one has answered my request about how to convert
the incorectly imported formats so I ended up doing it in Excel and
then ran into problems importing just one field in CVS using vStudio.
