SQL Search for records that BEGIN WITH

Apparently Valentina does nto have a BEGISN WITH operator.

Somewhere on the site I found this substitute for searching in the REFERENCE field for values starting with "Pp":

"select * from TAGGED where REFERENCE REGEXP ' ^Pp ', EVCursorLocation.kServerSide, EVLockType.kReadOnly, EVCursorDirection.kForwardOnly )"

It works, but erratically. Is this right?
