VStudio can't open files

What's up with VStudio? I wanted to check some data and tried to open a freshly created database with it. Both version 4.6. I get the rather rude message "Database can't be opened". I created a new database and redownloaded VStudio. With the same result. The application accessing the database is NOT open.
