I still have not catch what exactly you have catch.

3.5.3 not works for you with newer director? -- possible

Or with newer OS X ?  -- I doubt


Also you can take Vstudio 3.5.3 and open that db by it.
Works?  If yes then 3.5.3 engine can open your db.
