Querying empty records doesn't seem to work with revolution

When I apply this select statement in Visual Studio it seems to work well
and retrieves rows that don't have a specific value, but when I try in
revolution it doesn't work.
SELECT Act FROM Artists WHERE Writer = ''


 put VDataBase_SQLSelectRecords(mData, "SELECT Act FROM Artists WHERE Writer
= '' ","kServerSide", "kReadWrite", "kRandom",1,10,tab,CR) into curs
