Thanks for all the responses.

Thorsten,

Many thanks for the time and effort in this verbose response.

Thanks for the heads up regarding the sequence of events in paragraph 1.
Paragraph 2 is exactly what I did to resolve the issue.
Paragraph 3 same .dll hell on a different platform.
Paragraph 4 yes tried that.
Had v4 (thanks to vague instructions)instead of v3
but was the best (still almost impossible to understand) resource
found in the videos section.
Again why bother with videos with almost no content when a few
simple screen snaps
and properly worded instructions have proven time and time
again to be better?
Paragraph 5 absolutely agree. In windows the app looks for supporting .dlls

in its own folder then subfolders first. Then elsewhere. I hope
RB/vDB/MAC does the same.

All my best,
    Barry G. Sumpter

I still feel all this frustration could have been avoided with better
documentation.
It is NOT hard at all to put together a few screen shots and plain English
for step-by-step instructions.

Hi Barry,

try to write some thoughts on this topic ....

* of course you didn't need to compile your app on the mac, in some if
not many cases it would be very helpful to run the IDE on the Mac and
debug. My experience is in the other direction but from time to time
it is really surprising how different the "same" app behaves on Mac
and Win , especially start up of the app and the (order of) fired
events are different

* What else did you try on *this* Mac regarding Valentina? Especially
mixing up versions from very old ones with the newest one can puzzle
up the things really needed. So I would strongly recommend to remove
EVERYTHING related with Valentina: Receipts, VComponents,
Preferences, ... and do a clean install with exactly and only the
version you needed!

* With every other version you install you are going to change the
vcomponents! So it would be very wise to make a copy of this
vcomponents named e.g. vcomponents_3_5_2, vcomponents_4_2_1, ... to
get them back when needed!

* the install script (see
b:manual:deployment:mac_ub
 >) copies the current version of the vcomponents in your app bundle,
so the app is not going to use the vcomponents installed on the
machine anymore. You really should do this, because otherwise changing
the version of the installed Valentina could end up with a not
starting app.

Regarding "real" deployment this step is simply a must! Otherwise any
other app using valentina on the same machine can kill your app!

regards,
