difficulty with registering databases

Ok, the files have to be in the /Library/VServer_Embedded/databases
folder
so you can register them. I understand. On the mac it seems you have to
restart the server before they are available? Or will server refresh
work?
I've been restarting the whole computer (not fun). Which way to go?
