creation date

Hi,

in a table I have created a field creation_date (datetime) as a  
method = now()
I see now that it returns when queried now--> being the time the  
query ran
I want the field to hold the value of the timestamp when it was  
inserted (and then no longer change)
How would I do that

I looks like I would need to place the now function in the default  
value for the field instead of creating a method.

How would I do that ?
