Valentina 3.x and v2 are practically the same things.

No, I just create VarChar field as is in my new test db.
        f1          VarChar[2044]

Just click field and see Property Inspector.
Also in 4th column of schema editor, near to type of field can be LETTERS
that show flags:

                VarChar[40] INW

    I - indexed
    N - Nullable
    W - Index by words
