I don't remember where I read it, but I found it to be true: when the  
customer says some feature in a software would be used rarely he  
means often. If he says never, he means rarely.

Sounds like these two solutions are very complicated. Transfering  
objects sounds a bit fishy and is really dependent on the ERM.

If you can't go with a then do this option, as it seems the cleanest  
solution. Now that VRuby is available you have new language you could  
use.

Don't forget something else: reporting. In my day job with Opel/GM I  
sometimes think that nowadays we do most software only to get reports  
out.
