Compability and versioncheck

Is a client with VComponents 2.2 compatible with a server with  
VComponents 2.1, in that sense it at least should be able to connect  
and (hopefully) able to work with functions available in 2.1?

Is there a way to determine what version VComponents the client has  
installed? I can't find any version info on mine on my Powerbook  
running Mac OS X 10.4.5.
