I think best practice is:

* use Official RELEASE if you have no showstopper bugs.

* then if betas have fix that bugs and you need them urgent
  you can switch to beta. But beta is beta. This can be painful process.

In beta participate developers who need fixes urgent, who asks some
features, and then test them, ..
