1) Let me correct Lynn. We have third party C++ developer which have access
to Valentina CVS. He was able built for own project Valentina libs of size
about 24-26MB instead of 60Mb as we do now. So in theory we can go down
35MB.
2) Current 60MB of Valentina 2 can be compressed to about 20MB by Apple
Package Maker, which use ZIP archive. Can somebody tell me why apple cannot
use for this tool other algorithm which can be minimum 2 times better. For
example RAR or Stuffit?
3) If you look on our site and compare e.g. V4RB mac and win archives you
will see:
a) Valentina for RB WIN 4.5 MB
b) Valentina for RB PEF 8 MB
c) Valentina for RB UB 20 MB
-----------
So on Window there is no any big problems with Valentina size, right? :-)
Why they present on MAC?
V4RB PEF dlls made by CW, and they have the same size as V4RB WIN dlls made
by visual. Then why size is 8MB?
Because Package Maker uses ZIP,
But also free InnoSetup installer on Windows side uses RAR.
In other words:
Thanks to APPLE TOOL we have 2 times bigger archive.
----------
And why Valentina for RB UB is now 60MB?
* we use XCODE instead of CW. XCODE/GCC produce dlls which are
about 2 times bigger of CW/Visual dlls. Nice?
* UB - means that present code for PPC and Intel.
so we get again 2 times bigger size.
2 * 2 = 4 times bigger
-------
Can we blame in this only Valentina or Paradigma? :-)
If Apple could give us:
* COMPILLER as good as CW or Visual
* Installer maker as good and easy as InnoSetup
* May be few years later UB again become single CPU
We could give you V4RB archive at 4.5MB only :-)
Well UB at 9MB only.
---------
But we have what we have now. Few weeks ago on Valentina list we have
discuss what is better: drop support of 10.3 or reduce size of Valentina on
MAC OS X. All developers have agree that we can live with this size up to
ship of 10.5. Then we drop 10.3.9, we remove huge ICU dlls from VComponents
and start using directly ICU from OS X.
This is a plan. :-)
