I downloaded the Reference manual again. It says the same.

Anyway, I changed to 

>>    App.mValdb1 = new ValDB
>>    App.mValdb1.LocaleName = "de_DE"

Accented characters still come out wrong.

So, perhaps I must move on and send you a sample project as you kindly offered.
