No and Yes.

However, I don't see, in the examples provided by Paradigma, where  
FLUSH() is being called before closing the database.

Again, an important indicator of the problem is that the call to Open  
the database works, but looking at the values after the open call has  
passed, all the tables are 'nil'. Whereas the database itself has a  
valid value.
