Why don't you add a line to your stopMovie handler like

Put "Stopmovie handler called"

Then you will see if it is called.

I have had frequent DIR crashes with Valentina but the reason was always an
instance still beeing open. So like Martin said: void all relevant cursors,
globals etc before shutting down.
