Do you mean that EACH record have 2 strings
    which in average are 3000 bytes each?

Yes, I think TEXT is good choice then.
Set segment size 1000 bytes.

    3000 * 2 * 30,000 = 180MB.

You have 270 extra.

May be you have choose to big segment size for BLOBs.
Try less
