[SQL/VAPP]Can I use SELECT SUM() on ver1.8.9

Hi All

I'm trying to use SQL with ver1.8.9 68k and AppleScrit. But as error, 
"Valentia 68k got an error: Field Not Found" happens. My script is like 
the following.

   set theCoursor to SQL select "SELECT SUM(A) FROM tableA"

It works well on 1.9 carbon. What's is problem?
