Unicode support (was: Sorting with international characters)

Does this mean that: a) Unicode will be a feature of 1.x and not just 2.x?
and b) that the support will be for both UTF-8 & UTF-16 as was discussed in
Jan of this year?

Or should I just keep working and not worry about it now ;)
