VarChar error reproduced.

So, this might be the problem. This error has only occurred in places where
we have large amounts of records - generally 60,000 or more. I couldn't see
record locking being a major in my case because the chances of anyone trying
to edit the same record are almost nil and on two occasions when the crash
occurred, there was only one person connected to the server so record
locking should not have been an issue.

Looking forward to seeing a fix on this.
