Wow!! I now realize how incomplete our reports are to you. Tough 
debugging a continent away!!

Yes, Vdatabase error property changes from 0 to 9 after:

res = w.mDataBase.Create( f, 1, 32 * 1024 )


boolean "res"  of course remains false

Server after this errors STAYS UP.

I can apparently repeat attempt at "new" from sample app repeatedly. 
Same behaviour each time.
