Huge .bdb file

I have taken some delimited files and imported them into a valentina db using the latest valentina studio. The csv files total about 500MB of data before import. 

After import into the db I have database which is taking up about 22GB of space. Most of that is the .blb file which is more than 21GB.

Is this normal? Seems like a huge amount of space to be taken up by what started as 500MB of data.

This is on OS X Sierra, btw.
