I have download fc7 self, and was need open 1.x db

Start VS, open db but nothing happens

BUT I was on 10.4 

And Aha! Bingo!

You need download separately 1.x plugin and DROP INTO

    Vstudio.app/Contents/MacOS/plugins

Now it work here.
