Adding a BLOB to a table

I created a new database as the 2.x format and then added a table to the DB.
One of the columns I wanted to add was a BLOB, I entered the column name and
the segment size and when I clicked the create button nothing happened. The
column wasn't created and no error occurred - just nothing happened. If I
launch the SQL Editor and do a ALTER TABLE xxx ADD COLUMN zzz - that works!

Has anyone else had this issue?
