Details for registration will follow. - ODBC support improved. MS-Access datasource work now Please - everybody with MS-Access databases should test this. Simply choose "Connect to server" from the file menu. In the drop-down list choose "ODBC datasource" - then enter the name of the datasource into the field "Hostname" (This not very intuitive way will of course be changed) - Update Routine for vsPrefsDB (no need to trash it anymore...) Hopefully all vsPrefsDB's should now automatically updated - no need to trash the old one's any more. - ListView: List Selection now changes current object correctly Also some other bug fixes with "+" and "-" buttons. - Removed some memory leaks - New Info window added (Property Inspector bounded to single object) This means that you can open a Info-window for each selected object - the content of this window will NOT change if you select another object. Now you can compare properties from several objects by opening as many info-windows as needed. - Server Monitor added This window refreshes itself in a user defined time intervall. it shows all databases on a Valentina server - and all connections to selected databases. You can register/unregister databases from this window. It is also possible to kill existing connections. DON'T KILL vStudio's own connection for now!!!!! - JavaScript Engine "Spidermonkey" included as Plugin - "Startup.js" script is now executed during startup This is the start of scripting support. The industry standard JavaScript Engine "Spidermonkey" from the mozilla project is now included as a plugin. As a start 4 Valentina Studio commands are available as JavaScript functions - so that you can play with it. You can find a folder "Scripts" in vStudio's folder (on Mac it is located INSIDE the application package. Please look at the comments in the file "Startup.js" in this folder for more information. However, with my open ODBC datasource selected in the Schema Browser, when I click File->Close, I get this error: Unhandled exception: An unhandled exception occurred. 'Abort' will terminate the program, 'Retry' will close the current dialog, 'Ignore' will try to continue. [Abort][Retry][Ignore] Clicking 'Abort' exits. Clicking 'Retry' exits. Clicking 'Ignore' keeps V-Studio open, seems to close the datasource, but V-Studio is crashed. This may or may not be related to the fact that when I launch a45, TWO Schema Browser windows open. No it doesn't. I did the following: 1) Connect to ODBC datasource 2) With datasource highlighted, click "SQL SELECT" button, get "Please select a database first" message 3) Click datasource in Browser's column 2 (even though it was already selected in column 1) 4) Click "SQL SELECT" button, enter query statement 5) Click "Execute SQL" button, get "unhandled exception" message w/ Abort/Retry/Ignore I don't get a chance to resize the results window; it crashed before displaying any results. I can, of course, resize the window _before_ clicking "Execute SQL". This build will be mainly a bugfix release - the current build - as you may have noticed have several problems leading to crashes - mostly on the Windows side but also on Mac. We have identified almost all of the problems now - there are only a few left which i will fix during the weekend. It seems that the new build will be much more stable then the last one. I have also eliminated many memory leaks which leads to problems when you run the (registered) app for a longer period. The new build will also contain the latest server client (2.0a61) and functions to add/alter users on a Valentina Server. -- Best regards, Jochen Peters PIIT GmbH ------------------------------------ http://www.valentina-db.de From gregkowalski at earthlink.net Sat Mar 27 23:32:11 2004 From: gregkowalski at earthlink.net (Gregory Kowalski) Date: Sat Mar 27 22:30:38 2004 Subject: [Valentina-studio] Valentina studio questions Message-ID: Hi, I had downloaded a Beta version of Valentina Studio v 1.0a35 back in january (MAC OS 10.3). I find it to be very unstable: I always have to force-quit it and it does not import ascii files after doing the wizard thing (the db remains empty.) It crashes a lot too. Also: 1. In the info window it says v 1.0a35, not 1.0a45. 2. After I downloaded 1.0a45, the previous beta version I had gave me an error on launch ("kernel error 328) and stopped working in general. It IS still beta. All versions so far has had a limit of 10 minutes build in. This is the case because the Valentina Kernel needs registration to work longer than 10 minutes. Old versions of Valentina Studio didn't mentioned this limitation - and this was bad because after 10 minutes strange thinks could happen. Now - starting with a45 Valentina Studio reminds you on this limitation during startup - and - because it can handle registration now you can completly remove this limit. Details about registration will be send to this list next week. > > I find it to be very unstable: I always have to force-quit it and it > does not import ascii files after doing the wizard thing (the db > remains empty.) It crashes a lot too. Yes! The a45 build was indeed very unstable! And i have been working on this issue for the last week. The new build a46 - which will be available tomorrow - will be much much more stable!!! > > Also: > > 1. In the info window it says v 1.0a35, not 1.0a45. > > 2. This is because the new format of the Valentina Preference database is not compatible with OLD versions of the program. But this is not a show stopper for you. Greg, simply trash "vsPrefsDB" - it is a folder in your home directory. Just search for a folder with this name and move it to the trash. After that the old program should launch again. -- Best regards, Jochen Peters PIIT GmbH ------------------------------------ http://www.valentina-db.de From fvanlerberghe at freegates.be Sun Mar 28 10:49:42 2004 From: fvanlerberghe at freegates.be (Francois Van Lerberghe) Date: Sun Mar 28 02:49:42 2004 Subject: [Valentina-studio] Encoding bug ?
