Thanks Bart. I just solved the problem. It turns out that latest build of
vServer loaded with setting to not flush data after each change and for
some reason my routine in LiveCode for closing the database when I quit
does not have the "flush" command. I think it is because I took it out last
year when it was causing crashes.

Having the "flush data after each change" set to true is really nice and
solves everything. You would think that would be a default setting.
