By "compatible" I mean: will a 2.4 RB app open (and convert) a 2.3 db to
2.4? Of course, I realize a 2.3 RB app can never open a 2.4 db. I see that
Vstudio offers to perform conversion. Is that feature in the kernel, or
just in Vstudio?

For example, when I upgrade Vserver to 2.4, will it open (and convert)
registered dbs that were created in 2.3? Answer must be yes, I guess --
Vserver cannot ask for confirmation.

I believe you are saying: since you have had to adjust file structure
because of booleans, why not go ahead and modify VarChar? Makes sense to me,
as long as 2.4 can open 2.3 dbs and silently convert them.

I apologize if I have misunderstood something.
