Rescuing a db with viSQL

Have you tried opening the xml file in a text editor and going to 
that line and removing the offending character? You can at least see 
what that character is.

I once managed to rescue a database by dutifully removing the 
offending characters ( a few unprintables) which users or some glitch 
somehow got into fields.
